Sixth Generation Monte Carlo Intimidator Concept

You've probably seen this one at the auto shows. The Monte Carlo Intimidator concept car hints at the future styling of the Monte Carlo street car. Named after 7-time NASCAR champion Dale Earnhardt, the Intimidator is designed to appeal to the NASCAR fan and anyone else who likes stock car racing. Theoretically, you could drive this car to work or to pick up a quart of milk. Chevy says it's street-legal, but just barely. Like a NASCAR stocker, the Intimidator sports a real low front airdam, an intimidating nose, flat side flanks and a proper decklid spoiler. But under the hood, instead of a 358-cu.-in. V8 you'll find a GM 3800 V6 coupled to a 4T65-E 4-speed automatic transaxle. They're mounted transversely, of course, because this is still a front-wheel-drive car. Peak horsepower is set at 297 and torque output plateaus at 282 ft.-lb. As befits the winningest car in NASCAR history, this Monte Carlo brings plenty of racing flavor to the cockpit. The Intimidator sports machine-faced aluminum Auto Meter racing gauges on a leather-wrapped instrument panel, front and rear black Recaro bucket seats with 5-point racing harnesses, a full tubular steel padded safety cage and on-board fire extinguisher, custom aluminum pedals, a Momo steering wheel, side exhaust and 17-in. Goodyear racing tires. You can't buy this car. But if you absolutely must have one, wait for the next Monte Carlo redesign. Based on public reaction at the auto shows, it's probably going to look a lot like the Intimidator.
